convencimiento

conviction

noun kon-ben-see-MYEN-toh Rare

Also means

firm belief

Usage Note

Convencimiento denotes the internal state of being convinced, whereas convicción (a near-synonym) often sounds more formal or legalistic. You use convencimiento to describe a deeply held personal certainty: actué con pleno convencimiento ('I acted in full conviction'). It does not refer to a criminal conviction — that is condena.

Examples

"Habló con total convencimiento."

Natural Translation

He spoke with total conviction.
