Usage Note

Contar is an -ue stem-changing verb (cuento, cuentas…). It means both to count numbers and to narrate: contar un chiste (to tell a joke). Contar con means to count on or to have available: cuenta con el apoyo del equipo (he has the team's support). The derived noun cuento means a short story or tale.
