Usage Note
Comparado functions most often as part of the phrase comparado con (compared to/with), equivalent to English 'compared to.' It is the past participle of comparar and agrees in gender and number with the subject: comparada con otras ciudades, Madrid es cara. In academic writing, en comparación con is an alternative phrasing. The standalone adjective sense ('the compared values') is mainly found in scientific texts.
