Usage Note

Cesar is used formally and in written registers (cesar en el cargo = 'to leave a post'). In everyday speech parar or dejar de are more common for 'to stop'. Note the capital César is the proper name Caesar; the lowercase verb cesar is distinct. Cesar en sus funciones is the standard formula for an official leaving office.
