cera

wax

noun SEH-rah Rare

Origin: from Latin cera

Usage Note

Cera covers beeswax, candle wax, ear wax (cera de los oídos), and polishing wax (cera para muebles). The phrase no hay más cera que la que arde (there is no more wax than what is burning) means 'that's all there is, take it or leave it'. Cero (zero) sounds almost identical — context distinguishes them.

Examples

"La abeja produce cera para construir los panales."

Natural Translation

The bee produces wax to build the honeycombs.
