Carpintero means both a carpenter (woodworker) and, in several Latin American countries, a woodpecker (pájaro carpintero, literally 'carpenter bird'). In Spain, a woodpecker is usually called pico or pájaro pico. The workshop or trade is carpintería. The feminine form carpintera is now fully accepted.
