Also means
warmth
Usage Note
Calor is grammatically masculine (el calor), but the colloquial phrase hace mucha calor (heard in some regions) is a common gender slip — the correct form is hace mucho calor. Tener calor (to feel hot) contrasts with hacer calor (the weather is hot). Calor can also mean emotional warmth: el calor humano (human warmth).
Examples
"Hoy hace mucho calor en la ciudad."
Natural Translation
It is very hot in the city today.
Literal Translation
Today makes much heat in the city.
