Ateniense refers to something or someone from Athens (Atenas), ancient or modern. It functions as both adjective and noun (los atenienses = 'the Athenians'). Like most nationality/origin adjectives ending in -ense, it is invariable in gender: un filósofo ateniense, una democracia ateniense.
