Usage Note

Apurar has a notable regional split: in Spain it most often means 'to drain/exhaust completely' (apurar el vaso, 'to drain the glass') or 'to rush someone'; in Latin America the reflexive apurarse is the standard way to say 'to hurry up', equivalent to Spain's darse prisa. As an intransitive or reflexive it can also mean 'to worry' in some varieties.
