agradar

to please

verb ah-grah-DAHR Rare

Also means

to be pleasing to

Usage Note

Agradar works like gustar: the thing that pleases is the grammatical subject, so 'it pleases me' is me agrada, not yo agrada. It is slightly more formal than gustar. The adjective agradable ('pleasant') shares the same root.

Examples

"Me agrada tu forma de hablar."

Natural Translation

I like the way you speak.

Literal Translation

To-me is-pleasing your way of speaking.
