Usage Note

Énfasis is unusual in that it is masculine (el énfasis) despite ending in -is, and its plural is identical: los énfasis (invariable). It is used with poner énfasis en (to place emphasis on) or hacer énfasis en (to emphasize). The accent on the first syllable is essential.
