vilmente

vilely, basely

adverb beel-MEN-teh Rare

Usage Note

Vilmente is a literary and formal adverb formed from vil ('vile, base, despicable'). It appears in writing and rhetoric to condemn morally reprehensible acts — fue vilmente asesinado ('he was vilely murdered'). The underlying adjective vil is itself elevated; everyday speech would use de manera infame or simply cruelmente instead.

Examples

"Los acusaron de actuar vilmente."

Natural Translation

They were accused of acting basely.
