Vertido (from verter, 'to pour') is the standard environmental and legal term for the dumping or discharge of substances — vertido tóxico ('toxic spill'), vertido de aguas residuales ('sewage discharge'). It can also refer to a single spill event. Do not confuse with vertiente ('slope, watershed').
