Usage Note

Verbal means 'spoken' or 'oral' (acuerdo verbal, 'verbal agreement') as opposed to written, and also 'relating to verbs' in grammatical contexts (frase verbal, 'verb phrase'). It is invariable for gender and takes -es in the plural. The distinction between verbal and escrito ('written') is a common contrast in legal and educational Spanish.
