Usage Note

Alfabeto and abecedario are both used for 'alphabet' in Spanish; abecedario (from a, b, c, d) is more common in schoolroom contexts, while alfabeto is preferred in linguistic or formal writing. The adjective is alfabético (orden alfabético = alphabetical order), and literacy is alfabetización.
