Usage Note

Utilidad means practical usefulness or the value something has for a purpose — la utilidad de una herramienta (the utility of a tool). In computing and economics it appears as a technical term (función de utilidad, utility function). The plural utilidades is used in Latin America to mean profits or earnings, a financial sense less common in Spain.
