tráfico

traffic

noun TRAH-fee-koh Less Common

Also means

trade

Usage Note

Tráfico is masculine and its primary meaning is road traffic (hay mucho tráfico, there's a lot of traffic). It also means illicit trade in formal contexts (tráfico de drogas, drug trafficking). Note the written accent on the first syllable, which moves the stress away from the default penultimate pattern. The verb traficar (to traffic/deal) is the related verb form.

Examples

"Hay mucho tráfico en el centro a esta hora."

Natural Translation

There's a lot of traffic in the city centre at this hour.

There-is much traffic in the centre at this hour
