trivialidad

triviality

noun tree-byah-lee-DAHD Rare

Usage Note

Trivialidad refers to something of little importance or depth — a trite remark or a minor detail not worth dwelling on. It is more formal than tontería and often appears in critical or intellectual discourse: reducir algo a una trivialidad = to reduce something to a triviality. The adjective trivial and verb trivializar belong to the same family. Do not confuse with frivolidad, which implies lightheartedness rather than shallowness.

Examples

"No pierdan el tiempo en trivialidades."

Natural Translation

Don't waste time on trivialities.
