transcendent

Usage Note

Trascendental (also spelled transcendental) is used in two registers: formally, meaning 'of great importance' (una decisión trascendental), and philosophically, in the Kantian sense. In everyday Spanish the sense 'hugely significant' dominates. The related verb trascender means to transcend or to become known (la noticia trascendió = the news leaked out).
