Usage Note

Teñido is the past participle of teñir ('to dye') used as an adjective. It describes hair, fabric, or any material that has had colour applied: el pelo teñido de rubio (hair dyed blonde). The noun tinte refers to the dye itself, and tintorería is the dry cleaner's (which historically also dyed fabric).
