Usage Note

Tachar has two distinct uses: literally striking through text (tacha las palabras incorrectas) and figuratively labeling someone negatively, always with de: lo tacharon de mentiroso ('they branded him a liar'). The second figurative use is very common in journalism and cannot be replaced by cruzar.
