suspendido

suspended, failed

adjective soos-pen-DEE-doh Rare

Also means

hanging, dangling

Usage Note

Suspendido most commonly means suspended (a sentence, a licence, a match). In academic contexts in Spain it can mean failed: estar suspendido. Note that the failing grade itself is the noun suspenso (sacar un suspenso, to fail), not suspendido. The base verb suspender also means to hang something up.

Examples

"El partido fue suspendido por la lluvia."

Natural Translation

The match was suspended due to the rain.
