Sostenido describes something that is maintained over time without weakening — crecimiento sostenido ('sustained growth'), esfuerzo sostenido ('sustained effort'). In music, sostenido is also the term for a sharp (♯). The word should not be confused with sostenible ('sustainable'), which refers to ecological or long-term viability.
