Usage Note
Sacrificio can be literal (a religious offering) or figurative (a personal hardship made for a greater goal). It is most commonly used in the figurative sense in everyday speech — hizo muchos sacrificios por su familia ('she made many sacrifices for her family'). The verb is sacrificar; the reflexive sacrificarse means 'to sacrifice oneself.'
