Usage Note

Romano functions as both an adjective (el Imperio romano — 'the Roman Empire') and a noun (los romanos — 'the Romans'). Note that in typography, letra romana or tipo romano refers to roman (upright, non-italic) typeface. The feminine is romana; the phrase a la romana describes a frying style (battered/fried) common in Spain.
