románico

Romanesque

adjective rroh-MAH-nee-koh Rare

Origin: From Romanus (Roman) + -ico.

Also means

Romance

Usage Note

Románico has two main senses: the architectural and artistic style of medieval Europe (arte románico, iglesia románica) and, in linguistics, the Romance language family (lenguas románicas). It differs from romántico (Romantic, romantic) — a common mix-up. Spain has an exceptionally rich Romanesque heritage, particularly in Castile, Navarre, and Catalonia.

Examples

"La catedral tiene un portal románico perfectamente conservado."

Natural Translation

The cathedral has a perfectly preserved Romanesque portal.
