reubicar

to relocate

verb rreh-oo-bee-KAHR Rare

Also means

to reposition

Usage Note

Reubicar means to move someone or something to a different location, often in administrative, urban-planning, or humanitarian contexts: reubicar a los damnificados (to relocate flood victims), reubicar oficinas (to relocate offices). It is a straightforward prefix compound (re- + ubicar), but learners should note that ubicar itself is more commonly used in Latin America than in Spain, where situar or colocar are preferred. In Spain reubicar may therefore sound slightly Latin American.

Examples

"El ayuntamiento decidió reubicar a las familias afectadas."

Natural Translation

The council decided to relocate the affected families.
