Afincar means to settle in a place or to take root, most often used reflexively as afincarse (se afincó en Madrid = he settled in Madrid). It is a regular -ar verb with a spelling change (c → qu before e: afínquese). It is more formal than instalarse and often implies a lasting or permanent establishment.
