recoil (firearms)
Usage Note
Retroceso describes a backward movement or a regression — a setback in progress, health, or economic terms (un retroceso económico). The verb is retroceder ('to move back, to retreat'). In firearms, it refers to the recoil. Do not confuse with regresión (which is more statistical/analytical) or vuelta atrás (a general reversal).
