rendición

surrender

noun rrehn-dee-SYOHN Rare

Origin: From rendir (to yield), from Latin reddere (to give back).

Also means

capitulation

Usage Note

Rendición is a formal noun denoting the act of giving up, used in military, political, and figurative contexts (la rendición del enemigo — the enemy's surrender). The verb is rendirse. Do not confuse rendición with rendimiento (performance, yield) — both derive from rendir but name very different things.

Examples

"La rendición del ejército puso fin a la guerra."

Natural Translation

The army's surrender ended the war.
