Usage Note

Reina is the feminine of rey (king). In chess, la reina is the most powerful piece (the queen). The verb reinar means 'to reign'. Reinado is the noun for a reign. Note that reina can also be used affectionately as a term of address (¿qué quieres, reina?), equivalent to 'sweetheart' or 'love' in informal speech.
