reclamado

claimed

adjective rreh-klah-MAH-doh Rare

Also means

demanded

Usage Note

Reclamado is the past participle of reclamar used adjectivally. Reclamar means both 'to claim' (ownership or rights) and 'to demand' or 'to complain', so context matters: un territorio reclamado = a claimed territory; el dinero reclamado = the money demanded. It is a false friend with English 'reclaimed' in the ecological sense; Spanish uses recuperado for 'reclaimed land'.

Examples

"El territorio reclamado sigue en disputa."

Natural Translation

The claimed territory remains in dispute.
