Usage Note

Quemado is the past participle of quemar used as an adjective. Literally it means 'burnt' (la tostada está quemada = 'the toast is burnt'). Colloquially estar quemado means 'to be burned out' from stress or overwork, and in some contexts it can mean 'fed up.' Quemado can also describe a person who has lost public credibility or been politically discredited.
