Usage Note

Psicología is spelled with an initial ps-, which is pronounced in careful speech as ps- but commonly reduced to s- in everyday speech (sicología). Both spellings are accepted by the RAE, though psicología remains standard in formal and academic writing. A practitioner is un/una psicólogo/a; note the accent shifts in psicólogo compared to psicología.
