Preparatorio describes something that serves to prepare for a subsequent step. In Mexico and other Latin American countries preparatoria (shortened to prepa) is the colloquial name for upper secondary school (equivalent to high school), making this adjective very common in educational contexts. The feminine form is preparatoria.
