preparar

to prepare

verb preh-pah-RAHR Less Common

Also means

to get ready

Usage Note

Preparar is transitive ('to prepare something'), while the reflexive prepararse means 'to get oneself ready' or 'to train for something'. Prepararse para un examen ('to study for an exam') is a common collocation. Unlike English 'prepare', it does not take an indirect object — use preparar algo para alguien ('to prepare something for someone').

Examples

"Voy a preparar la cena esta noche."

Natural Translation

I'm going to prepare dinner tonight.
