precisamente

precisely

adverb preh-see-sah-MEHN-teh Less Common

Also means

exactly

Usage Note

Precisamente is used both to mean 'exactly' (pinpointing something) and as a conversational response agreeing with or confirming what was just said — similar to 'precisely!' or 'exactly!' in English. It is more emphatic than exactamente in some contexts and common in both Spain and Latin America. When two -mente adverbs appear together, only the final one keeps the suffix: clara y precisamente.

Examples

"Llegó precisamente a las nueve."

Natural Translation

He arrived at exactly nine o'clock.

Literal Translation

Arrived exactly at the nine
