Portar means to carry or bear something (especially weapons, documents, or insignia) and is more formal than llevar. The reflexive portarse means 'to behave': portarse bien/mal ('to behave well/badly'). This reflexive use is common and does not carry the 'carrying' sense at all, so learners must distinguish the two uses carefully.
