Piso is the standard word for a flat/apartment in Spain, but in most of Latin America apartamento or departamento is used instead. Its second core meaning is 'floor' or 'storey' of a building (el tercer piso, 'the third floor') as well as the physical floor surface (el piso está mojado, 'the floor is wet').
