Usage Note

Alquilar covers both renting (a flat, a car) and hiring (a person or service) in much of Latin America, though Spain often uses contratar for hiring workers. The noun alquiler means 'rent' or 'rental fee'. Se alquila ('for rent') is the standard sign on properties.
