Usage Note

Pigmento refers to any coloring substance — biological (the pigmento in skin, hair, and eyes), artistic (the powdered pigments mixed into paint), or industrial. In biology, melanina is the main skin pigment. The related verb is pigmentar ('to pigment') and the adjective is pigmentado ('pigmented'). Pigmentación ('pigmentation') describes the overall coloring of an organism.
