Pendiente is both an adjective (pending, outstanding) and a noun: la pendiente means a slope or incline, and el pendiente means an earring (Spain; in Latin America arete or aro is more common). As an adjective it does not change for gender: asunto pendiente (pending matter), tarea pendiente (outstanding task).
