Usage Note
Pela is colloquial Spanish slang — originally una pela meant one peseta (the pre-euro currency). Today it is used informally to mean money in general, especially in Spain: no tengo una pela (I don't have a penny). It is distinctly informal and primarily peninsular Spanish.
Examples
"No me queda ni una pela en el bolsillo."
Natural Translation
I haven't got a single penny left in my pocket.
Literal Translation
Not me remains not one peseta in the pocket.
