peinar

to comb

verb peh-ee-NAHR Rare

Usage Note

Peinar means to comb or style hair, and reflexively peinarse means to comb one's own hair. It also appears in figurative use: peinar la zona means to comb an area (as police do in a search). The noun peine (comb) shares the same root, and peinado (hairstyle, or past participle 'combed') is commonly used as a standalone noun.

Examples

"Se peinó el cabello antes del espejo."

Natural Translation

She combed her hair in front of the mirror.
