Numeroso agrees in gender and number (numerosa, numerosos, numerosas) and is typically used before a noun or in predicative position. It most often describes groups or collections — una familia numerosa ('a large family') and un público numeroso ('a large audience') are set phrases. It is more formal than simply using muchos.
