Usage Note

Cupo denotes a fixed allotment or limit — a quota of places, goods, or permits. In Mexico and Latin America cupo is the everyday word for 'capacity' or 'space available' (no hay cupo = there's no room). In Spain the cupo vasco refers to the Basque Country's special fiscal quota arrangement with the central government.
