Usage Note

Narrar is the formal or literary verb for telling a story or providing a running commentary. It is used for written fiction, film voice-overs, and sports commentary (narrar un partido). The agent noun is narrador/narradora (narrator); the product is narración. In everyday speech contar is more common for telling a story to a friend.
