mus

mus (card game)

noun MOOS Rare

Origin: Possibly from Basque

Usage Note

Mus is Spain's most popular traditional card game, played in pairs with a 40-card Spanish deck and involving elaborate bidding and bluffing signals between partners. Its origin is often linked to the Basque country. It is deeply embedded in Spanish bar culture, particularly in the north, and its specialised vocabulary (órdago, pares, juego) forms a rich sub-lexicon of its own.

Examples

"Jugamos al mus en el bar cada viernes."

Natural Translation

We play mus at the bar every Friday.
