muchachito

little boy, young lad

noun moo-chah-CHEE-toh Rare

Usage Note

Muchachito is the diminutive of muchacho (boy, young man), formed with the suffix -ito. The diminutive adds a sense of affection or smallness — it would be used for a young child rather than a teenager. The feminine equivalent is muchachita. In Latin America diminutives are very frequently used in affectionate everyday speech, so muchachito sounds warm and natural rather than babyish.

Examples

"El muchachito corrió hacia su madre."

Natural Translation

The little boy ran toward his mother.
