migaja

crumb

noun mee-GAH-hah Rare

Also means

scrap, morsel

Usage Note

Migaja literally means a bread crumb, but it frequently appears in figurative expressions of scarcity: no le dejaron ni una migaja ('they left him not even a scrap'). The plural migajas is the more common form in everyday speech and idioms. Do not confuse with miga ('the soft inside of bread'), which is related but distinct.

Examples

"Las palomas picoteaban las migajas del suelo."

Natural Translation

The pigeons pecked at the crumbs on the ground.
